2006 International Symposium on “Occupational Exposure Management at Nuclear Power Plants” with technical exhibition

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA), the CEPN (the ISOE European Technical Centre) and the VGB PowerTech (Association of Large Power Plant Operators) are jointly organising and sponsoring the 2006 ISOE International Symposium. This Symposium is targeted at radiation protection professionals (radiological protection and maintenance managers and senior staff members in health physics, chemistry…) from all types of Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs), Research Reactors, contractors and Radiological Protection Authorities. The Symposium will:

• provide a large forum for operators to exchange practical information and experience on occupational exposure issues,
• allow vendors to present their recent products,
• give an opportunity to participate in plenary sessions, poster presentations, small group discussions and vendors exhibition.

An important innovation is the organisation just before the Symposium, on the 14th of March, of three meetings devoted to specific audiences:

• a meeting for the NPP radiation protection managers (RPM)
• a meeting for the senior staff of regulatory bodies
• a meeting for research reactors representatives

Participation to the Symposium will allow to benefiting from a presentation by L.E Holm, chairman of ICRP on the new Recommendations of the Commission and from a discussion of the IARC epidemiological study results on nuclear cohorts. International Organisations (EC, IAEA) and trade union will present some of their topics of concern in occupational radiological protection. Source term reduction, job specific radiological protection experiences, ALARA strategies and management, dosimetry and measurements will be addressed during plenary sessions. Special attention will be given to the work in small groups, which gave during the previous ISOE international symposia in Europe, an opportunity for very fruitful international exchanges. We will be glad to welcome the distinguished presentations from the 2005 North American International Symposium and from 2005 first Japanese ALARA Workshop and to select the best European presentations to be presented in the 2007 ALARA Symposium in USA.
