Under "1.7 Techno-Economic Issues" item g) this workplan mandated the Expert Group on Techno-Economic Issues (EGTEI) to "continue the work on emerging technologies for combustion plants lower than 500 MW". Therefore, a sub-group was formed within EGTEI to collect and validate information and data for emerging technologies with an impact on emissions of the air pollutants of the convention below 500 MWth. It continues work performed in a previous sub-group focussed on emerging technologies in combustion plants > 500 MWth (LCP 2030 sub-group). The new sub-group is in internal communication abbreviated with "EmTech50-500" to allow easy distinction from the previous group. The sub-group is chaired by Emmanuel Fiani (ADEME). The technical secretariat is provided by French-German Institute for Environmental Research (DFIU) in Karlsruhe, Germany.https://www.vgb.org/en/bref_lcp_group_info.html New Abstracts of MinutesHydro-Power Plants - 15th October 2010https://www.vgb.org/en/kf_en_fa_wa_21.html 1) DONG Energy to Build German Offshore Wind FarmDONG Energy has decided to build the offshore wind farm Borkum Riffgrund 1 in the German part of the North Sea. Borkum Riffgrund 1 will consist of up to 89 3.6 MW turbines from Siemens Wind Power with a total capacity of 320 MW. Construction work is expected to start in 2013 with first power production in 2014. The wind farm will be situated in the North Sea, approximately 55 km off the north-west coast of Germany.
2) Call for Papers - VGB Conference "Chemistry in Power Plants 2011"VGB's annual Conference "Chemistry in Power Plants" will take place in Munich/Germany on October 26/27, 2011. The conference is a forum for energy utilities and operators of industrial power plants. Operating experience will be discussed and technical developments in the field of power plant chemistry will be presented.
3) VGB Job Market: Current VacanciesThe VGB Job Market is offering prospective persons the possibility to develop their career in the range of power and heat generation. You can find current vacancies on our homepage.
4) VGB-R613e "Code of Practice for Lifecycle Management of Reinforced Concrete Cooling Towers in Power Plants"This Guideline addresses the lifecycle management of reinforced concrete cooling towers. Lifecycle management comprises maintenance of the structure and measures to ensure the safety of a cooling tower. Effective lifecycle management must be preventive and knowledge-based.
5) Furnaces, Steam Generators and Steam Turbines, Combined Heat and Power Plants (CHP) - VGB PowerTech Journal 03/2011Main topics of the March issue are: Commissioning of a 350 tonnes lignite unit with an extraction condenser turbine; Methodical approach to furnace optimisation of power plants; From Stignaes to Asnaes - DONG Energy's second Chiyoda desulphurisation plant; Installation and operation of flue gas desulphurisation systems for Maritsa East II.
