Heinrich-Mandel Prize 2005The Board of Trustees of the VGB-FORSCHUNGSSTIFTUNG awarded the Heinrich-Mandel Prize for Power Plant Technology 2005 to
The 10,000 EUR prize was handed over by the VGB chairman on the occasion of the VGB Congress “Power Plants 2005” in Krakau, on September 28, 2005.
Gerd Jäger is awarding the Heinrich-Mandel-Prize 2005 to Dirk Schettler 33-year old Dr. Dirk Schettler has developed and optimized a measuring device, enabling online recording of high-temperature materials’ corrosion characteristics. Under application of electrochemical methods, i.e. impedance spectroscopy and noise measurement, corrosion rates comparable to material wear measurements under defined laboratory conditions perfectly corresponding regarding measuring exactness can be determined. By applying the measuring techniques developed, material damaging influences can be detected early and operational and process measures for reducing and avoiding corrosion damage be taken.
