Dust concentration measurement in flue gases, avoiding theinfluence of sulphuric acid aerosols on the measured value to a large extent |
Responding to growing demands of the European environmental legislation, power plant operators are increasingly focusing on the topic of dust emission measurement again. Se-veral independent studies provide evidence that the generally applied methods of dust measurement exhibit a degree of cross-sensitivity to sulphuric acid aerosols not to be ig-nored. Without knowledge and consideration of these interrelations, serious measurement errors can occur, always falsely indicating excessive dust concentrations. This applies to stationary operational measurement systems as well as mobile comparison measurement systems.
The project group „Dust measurement“, appointed by the VGB Technical Committee „Air Pollution and Noise Control“, has intensively dealt with this subject matter and – in line with representative comparison measurements – tested a gravimetric measuring system developed by STEAG (now Evonik) that prevents wrong measurement values due to sul-phuric acid aerosols to a large degree.
Based on the overall positive test results, this measuring system is particularly recom-mended for calibration of operational dust measurement systems.
This data sheet describes the special features of this measuring system, explains techni-cal backgrounds and shares practical experience.
