2) Technology Platform for Zero Emission Fossil Fuel Power Plants

The European Commission is facilitating the establishment of a Technology Platform for Zero Emission Fossil Fuel Power Plants aimed at identifying and removing the obstacles to the creation of highly efficient power plants. This will include CO2 capture and storage, as well as clean conversion technologies leading to substantial improvements in plant efficiency, reliability and costs. In order to begin the process of establishing the Technology Platform, the Commission has launched an open call for expressions of interest, particularly for those stakeholder organisations willing to propose candidates to become members of the Platform and other potential groups. The guidelines and further information, including an outline concept and tentative structure of the Platform are available on the Internet at.

3) Commission's Work Programme for 2005

The Commission's Environmental Work Programme for 2005 envisages proposals on climate change, sustainable development, air quality, waste, resource use and energy efficiency. Furthermore reviews of the Directives on Emissions Trading, Large Combustion Plant and National Emission Ceilings are foreseen. In addition, a set of thematic strategies will be published in 2005. The thematic strategies shall provide input for new EU legislative and non-legislative proposals. The thematic strategies including those dealing with waste, resources and air quality are expected to appear before the summer.
