> List of New Power Plants in Europe: Update February 2010 < The list New Power Plants comprises power plants in planning and under construction in Europe. Energy sources like gas, hard coal, lignite, wind, water, waste etc. are considered. Based on the list, the planned total output (MW) and the portions of the sources of energy (MW) can be determined. Due to political and economic decisions, the list lives with further planning measures and with cancellations. The current list is available in the member area for download:

1) IED Guideline: Report of the EP Rapporteur on the Common Position of the Council

The rapporteur of the European Parliament, Holger Krahmer, has tabled his draft recommendations for the EP's second reading. He cancels most of the flexibility mechanisms provided in the Common Position of the Council, e.g. a transitional national plan for old plants, an opt-out possibility for plants with a declared limited remaining operating time of max. 20.000 hours and a limited exception for old plants < 200 MW (th) feeding > 50 percent heat into the public district heat grid. Possibilities to deviate from BAT shall be constricted. H. Krahmer opposes the implementation of an emissions trading system for SO2 and NOx.

2) Siemens to Build Wind Turbine Production Plant in the UK

Siemens Energy is to build a new production plant for offshore wind turbines in the UK. With the new plant Siemens wants to meet the growing demand for wind turbines for British offshore projects.
Siemens has an order backlog of more than 3000 megawatts. Today, approximately 40 percent of the wind power generated in the UK is produced with Siemens wind turbines.

3) Heinrich Mandel-Prize 2009 - Call for Proposals

The VGB Research Foundation has rewarded outstanding achievements by young university graduates (age limit: 35 years) working in the field of power and heat generation with the Heinrich-Mandel Prize for over 25 years. The prize is endowed with 10,000 Euro and is awarded annually on the occasion of the VGB Congress POWER PLANTS. The work that is to be honoured in this way can relate either to new findings in the operation of power and heat generation plants, or to important research results.

Based on the award guideline, all VGB member companies as well as the Board, and the Technical and Scientific Advisory Boards of VGB have the right to propose candidates by April 30, 2010.

4) Call for Papers - VGB Conference "Chemistry in Power Plants 2010"

VGB’s annual Conference "Chemistry in Power Plants" will take place at the MARITIM Congress Centrum Bremen/Germany on October 27/28, 2010. The conference is a forum for operators of energy utilities and industrial power plants. Operating experience will be discussed and technical developments will be presented in the field of power plant chemistry.

Please submit your Call for Papers by April 30, 2010, at the latest to:

7) VGB-B103d+e "Designation Codes for Document Kind Classification Codes in Power Plants (DCC Key)"

The VGB Guideline B103 describes the structure of this document kind classification code (DCC). Its relation the document identifications which are commonly used in the power plant technology is listed in tables.

The concrete use of the DCC is described in the VGB Guideline R171 "Supply of technical documentation (data, documents) for power plants". The relevant designation of documents is determined by means of the document kind classification code DCC, which specifies the content of the information of documents. The DCC is part of the document code, consisting beyond this of the object designation code, which describes the relevant object.
