VGB Quality Award 2007

> Extension of the deadline until August 20, 2007 < There are new power-station construction projects with an electrical capacity of over 100,000 MW in Europe. These are in the planning process, tender phase or already under construction. Experience from implemented power-station projects showed deficiencies in quality, which have to be avoided in the forthcoming projects. For the second time, VGB will present the "VGB Quality Award" to increase quality. We call all ordinary VGB members to submit nominations.

1) Inauguration of FRESDEMO on the PSA

The inauguration of the Fresnel collector took place at the Plataforma Solar de Almeria (Spain) on the July 9, 2007. Fresnel collectors consist of numerous slightly curved mirrors which focus solar radiation onto a central absorber pipe. In this pipe, water can be evaporated and superheated up to 100 bar pressure and over 400 degrees Celsius. Measuring 20 metres by 100 metres, the prototype has a thermal capacity of 1 MW.

2) How to Find a Contact at VGB Offices

Do you have any questions about a specific field please do not hesitate to contact the corresponding expert at VGB Offices. On the internet you may find an extensive catalogue of technical terms ("Safety and Health at Work", "Gas Turbines" or "Password and Address Administration"). After choosing the category and the specific subject the relevant experts are listed.

3) VGB-R109 "Material Specification for Components under Pressure in Fossil-fired Power Plants"

The VGB-Guideline R109 "Material Specification for Components under Pressure in Fossil-fired Power Plants" applies to the steam boiler assembly and pipelines of the water/steam cycle. It shall clearly determine the delivery contract and the subsequent contract administration between customer, manufacturer and material manufacturer or supplier, and thus enable a rationalisation of the order and order processing. The material specification provides a collection of experiences and recommendations compiled to the best of knowledge and coordinated between the parties involved in the construction of the power plant. It intends to summarise the requirements on material manufacturers or suppliers and on the provision of materials for pressure equipment usually used in the 600 °C power plant generation to facilitate the order basis between the parties involved. Regulations from data sheets and directives exceeding the requirement of the EN standards, were editorially integrated to a large extent.
The directive is bilingual (German/English).
