2) EU Water Framework Directive

The transposition of the EU Water Framework Directive involves remarkable risks for the operation of existing and the erection of new hydro power plants, particularly in case of (nationally possible) restrictive interpretation of the skeleton ordinances.
The economical consequences for the operated plants - which are faced with the conditions of the market - as well as the enormous obstacles for the realization of new projects rather cause a reduction than an increase of electricity generation by means of hydro power and thus are in contradiction to the targeted support of "Renewable Energies".
A position paper with the title "The EU Water Framework Directive and its Possible Effects on Hydro Power" has been elaborated by the VGB-PG "EU-WFD" on initiative of the Steering Committee "Hydro Power", which describes the above mentioned causalities. The paper is available for download on the VGB PowerTech web side. Updates are targeted, they will be integrated periodically.

3) First European Guideline published at VGB PowerTech Service

We would like to inform you that the second edition of the VGB Guideline R 450Le "Guidelines for Feed Water, Boiler Water and Steam Quality for Power Plants / Industrial Plants" is the work of a joint European Technical Committee with representatives of EPPSA (European Power Plant Suppliers Association), FDBR (Fachverband Dampfkessel-,
Behälter- und Rohrleitungsbau e.V.) and VGB from most EU countries.
