2) Fire and Explosion Protection in Biomass Power Plants - VGB-S-018-00-2013-12-EN
4) VGB PowerTech Journal 6 (2014): Maintenance and Service, Retrofit, Power Plant Management
At its last meeting on March 6/7, 2014, CEN Technical Committee 104 for concrete decided to revise the standards with test methods for fly ash for determination of
- free calcium oxide content (EN451-1) and
- fineness by wet sieving
editorially and technically. Working Group 4 of TC 104 will prepare and discuss the revised standards at its next meeting in September 2014. The standards will be voted by CEN member states in early 2015.
In their comments for the revision especially of EN 451-1 the power power plant operators by majority asked for a more detailed process description, the implementation of alternative procedures for end point determination, the reduction of the cooking time from 3 to 1 h and the implementation of the free lime determination by conductometric analysis.
As background information for the reduction of the cooking time the results of comparative analysis have to be compiled and introduced to the WG 4. In the same way the results of comparative testing by conductometry (correlation data) have to be prepared.
We therefore ask all laboratories and test centres to assist the revision work and to provide their results.

The VGB-Standard "Fire and Explosion Protection in Biomass Power Plants" presents methods of using operational and adapted technical measures to keep the risks of fire and explosion as low as possible. In this way, potential hazards can be avoided by the deployment of suitable operational workflows. Fires can be detected without delay and combatted effectively under the specific conditions of the type of plant concerned. The formation of potentially explosive atmospheres can be limited by operational and technical measures.
