> List of New Power Plants in Europe: Update April 2013 < The list New Power Plants comprises power plants in planning and under construction in Europe. Energy sources like gas, hard coal, lignite, wind, water, waste etc. are considered. Based on the list, the planned total output (MW) and the portions of the sources of energy (MW) can be determined. Due to political and economic decisions, the list lives with further planning measures and with cancellations. The current list is available in the member area for download:

1) VGB/EURELECTRIC’s Generators Network Code: Debate with Consultant Regarding Needs, Feasibility, Alternative Solutions and Costs

The European Commission has tasked a consortium of DNV KEMA and COWI to perform an impact assessment of the Network Codes on Requirements for Grid Connection Applicable to all Generators (RfG), which will investigate:
- Need to implement the envisaged requirements
- Technical feasibility of the requirements
- Costs and benefits for generators as well as alternative solutions

For illustrating the arguments of the VGB/EURELECTRIC position in detail, a technical debate with the consultant was held on April 23, 2013.

2) VGB White Paper "Torrefied/Refined Pellets for Biomass Co-Firing"

Co-firing of biomass in large-scale coal-fired power plants has well known advantages like the common utilization of existing plants, the fuel flexibility, a wide range of usable fuels together with a fall back option in case of biomass shortage and the attainment of high overall efficiencies. But significant challenges occur while storing large amounts of biomass fuel and co-milling of high shares of biomass in existing coal mills. Refined biomass is expected to overcome these limitations. The VGB White Paper "Torrefied/Refined Pellets for Biomass Co-Firing" gives an overview of the three main refining technologies (torrefaction, steam explosion, HTC) and the advantages and limitations of refined biomass for biomass co-firing in pulverized fuel boilers.
