"Security of Supply - From Challenges to Solutions" This was the motto of the VGB Congress POWER PLANTS 2013, which took place in Maastricht/Netherlands on September 25 - 27, 2013.
Experts of the power supply business, politics, administration, and research discussed with international participants from more than 20 countries not only the challenges but also the solutions of future energy supply.

The VGB Research Foundation awarded the Heinrich-Mandel Prize 2013 to Sandra Schmidt for her Analysis and Optimisation of the CO2 sequestration with Monoethanolamin (MEA) at the lignite-fired power plant Niederaußem and to Dr. Björn Brosch for his numerical simulation of grate firing systems for biomass combustion.
The Heinrich-Mandel-Prize, endowed with a total of 10,000 Euro, was handed over by the VGB chairman on the occasion of the VGB Congress POWER PLANTS on September 25, 2013.

On the occasion of the opening ceremony of the VGB Congress POWER PLANTS on September 25, 2013, the VGB Quality Award was rewarded for the eighth time. Bernd-Otto Schneider and Thomas Beck received the prize for the Balcke Dürr GmbH for the outstanding "quality of the partial replacement of ISH 2 tube coils" at the Mehrum power plant.

The VGB European Working Group "Performance Indicators" extend the VGB Power Plant Information System in addition to the existing thermal power plants by pump storage and storage hydro power plants. Independent evaluations can be generated online over e.g. time availability, time utilization as well as operating charges mode and will be available anonymous. Currently, hydro power plants from Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Luxembourg and Portugal are participating.
