On June 16, 2010, European Parliament, Council and Commission within the framework of the so-called trilogue consultations adopted a compromise version of the Industrial Emissions Directive. According to this compromise the transitional national plan for old plants now is from January 1, 2016, until June 30, 2020. The limited lifetime derogation lasts max. 17,500 hours now and ends on December 30, 2023, at the latest. The exemptions for district heat plants end on December 31, 2022. By December 31, 2019, there is no deadline but a review for the use of a desulphurisation rate, being possible also for co-combustion. There is still no reference to a NOx/SO2 emissions trading; a reference that the member states shall be enabled to set CO2 emission limit values on a national level is not included in the main text but in the recitals there is a remark that member states may apply emission limit values for greenhouse gases. There are no changes regarding the limit values; the time basis for them shall be a month again and not a day. The formal acceptance of this compromise by the Council is expected in autumn 2010.

After successful completion of the detailed planning, the construction of RWE's first own offshore installation ship has begun. On completion next year, it will be the first of its kind that can transport up to four offshore wind turbines of the multi-megawatt class at the same time and erect them in water depths of more than 40 metres. The installation ship is intended for the construction of the German offshore wind farm "Nordsee Ost".
