The development steps in manufacturing technology and non-destructive examination techniques require differential test and inspection plans for the performance of in-service inspections and evaluations of components
This guideline covers the inspection of major castings and forgings of turbogenerator sets, which govern the safety and availability of the plant. The first sections describe the basic principles of design, inspection and evaluation. Then component-specific sections follow which deal with the calculations, test and inspections as well as remedial measures applying to the respective components.
The inspections are intended to prove the safety and to maintain the availability of rotors and casings of steam and gas turbo-generator sets after long years of operation. The inspections shall correspond to the state-ofthe-art and are intended to detect:
cracking and damage on materials caused by plant operation and
imperfections which at the formerly existing state of technical knowledge and inspection standard could not be found.
The inspection results will form the basis for assessing the further functional viability of the turbo-generator sets and for initiating the required maintenance and replacement measures as well as for fixing future operating modes and/or necessary tests and inspections.
