New business models for VGB utilities

In view of the expansion of renewables and distributed generation, the integration of these systems and the use of storage technologies is playing a major role in the energy sector.

The regulatory boundary conditions to use these technologies have been analysed within the VGB research project "Technical use of distributed generation and storages with regard to reserve and balancing markets. Regulatory boundary conditions in several EU countries and Switzerland".

Dr Thomas Eck is taking over as Head of the Power Plant and Environmental Technologies department of VGB PowerTech

Dr Thomas Eck

With effect from 1 September 2018, Dr Thomas Eck takes over the Head of the Power Plant and Environmental Technologies department as successor to Dr Oliver Then.

Dr. Thomas Eck has been working at VGB for several years as advisor for civil engineering and by-products and as chairman of the workers council. He has shown not only his technical expertise and profound strategic competencies but also very important employee orientation and leadership in difficult times for our association. The management is convinced that Thomas Eck is able to give valuable input into the upcoming strategic reorientation of the VGB group and to support further development in challenging times for the power industry.

VGB PowerTech: Technical competence centre for wind power at the NRW booth of WindEnergy Hamburg 2018

VGB PowerTech presents its objectives at the NRW booth of the WindEnergy Hamburg 2018.

To increase the performance of wind power plants, VGB has provided a growing platform for owners and operators of wind power plants for sharing experience and knowledge at a high expertise level. Currently, more than 130 experts are actively participating in VGB wind energy committees. The experiences pave the way for VGB-Standards for build and operation of power plants.

The new VGB-Standard Fire Protection for Onshore Wind Power Plants will be presented at Wind Energy Hamburg 2018. The publication focuses on fire prevention and rescue of persons from plants.
