CEO's of 36 European Transmission System Operator companies signed on 27th June a declaration of intent, to create a European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) before the end of the year. Energy Commissioner Piebalgs has welcomed this initiative, particularly as it represents a proactive step ahead of the Third Legislative Package on the Internal Electricity Market and reflects the principles set out therein.
In collaboration with Eurelectric, VGB is currently integrated in the preparation of UCTE's Technical Paper which defines requirements for power plants to ensure the stability of the European Transmission System.

Compared with conventional wood pellets, biocoal pellets have a significantly higher energy density and better incineration properties. The biocoal pellets can be burned together with coal in conventional power plants (co-firing). Together with the company Topell, the aim is to build the first commercial plant in the Netherlands for producing biocoal pellets. The plant is planned to be realized in 2009.
