> VGB Quality Award 2008 < There are new power-station construction projects with an electrical capacity of over 100,000 MW in Europe. These are in the planning process, tender phase or already under construction. Experience from implemented power-station projects showed deficiencies in quality, which have to be avoided in the forthcoming projects. For the third time, VGB will present the "VGB Quality Award" to increase quality. We call all ordinary VGB members to submit nominations until July 1, 2008. More information in the member area:

1) EU Directive on Ambient Air Quality Published

In June 2008 the "Directive 2008/50/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 21 May 2008 on ambient air quality and cleaner air for Europe" was published in the Official Journal of the European Union. According to this directive the member states have to meet a target value for the PM 2,5 concentration of 25 microgram/m3 by 2010; the same concentration shall be a limit value in 2015. The member states have to reduce the PM 2,5 exposure in urban areas by 20 percent from 2010 to 2020. By 2015 the PM 2,5 exposure concentration in such areas should not exceed 20 microgram/m3. There is an "indicative" limit value for PM 2,5 of 20 microgram/m3 in 2020.
