1) Coal Combustion Products and REACH

On 1st June 2007 the REACH-Regulation (Registration, Authorisation, Evaluation and Restriction of Chemicals) entered into force. Each producer of coal combustion products (CCPs) placed on the market as construction materials have to register the substances. In Europe, non registered substances can not be placed on the market after 1st June 2008 without registration. As CCPs are already registered in the European Inventory of the Existing Commercial Chemical Substances (EINECS), the registration period for CCPs is extended to 30th November 2010 if the producer pre-register in the period of 1st June to 30 November 2008. The registration requires i.a. comprehensive information about toxicology and ecotoxicology of the substances.

A project group is dealing with the details for the pre-registration of coal combustion products. Members of the project group are i.a. representatives of the associations BDEW, VGB, BVK, BV Gips, EuroGypsum and ECOBA. The work of the project group is aiming at the formation of European consortia for the common registration of calciumsulphate und ashes from power plants.

European producers of coal combustion products are invited to join the consortia for CCPs.

2) VGB-TW805-08 "Centralized Reliability and Events Database, Reliability Data for Nuclear Power Plant Components - December 2007" (German Edition), 1st upgrading for VGB-TW805

The aim of the German publication "Zentrale Zuverlaessigkeits- und Ereignisdatenbank, Zuverlaessigkeitskenngroessen fuer Kernkraftwerkskomponenten - Dezember 2007" (TW805-08) is to provide additional and updated reliability data that can be used in probabilistic safety analyses (PSA).
The Centralized Reliability and Events Database (ZEDB) gathers and analyzes operating experience gained at a large number of nuclear power plants. The ZEDB use the two-stage Bayesian models to calculate plant-specific and generic reliability data. The collection of operating experience and the generation of reliability data for safety-related nuclear power plant components are continued and expanded.
The publication about the 2007 analysis includes additional and updated pages of the loose leaf system that was issued as the German report "Centralized Reliability and Events Database, Reliability Data for Nuclear Power Plant Components - December 2006" (TW805).
Referring to the structure of this loose leaf system, the results of current analysis are published in form of data tables. These tables consist of three parts: a characterization of the component population, a list of the determined generic values, and a list of the determined plant-specific values. The 5 percent quantile, the 50 percent quantile (median), the 95 percent quantile, the k factor and the mean value of the distributions are specified.
