Training of Power Plant Personnel

The liberalization of electricity market and the modernization of power plants result in multiple challenges for the utilities to optimize their enterprise strategies. This requires also modifications in the qualification of staff. The task spectrum of operation staff has become more broad. The operators have to master electro technologies and I&C techniques as well as power plant process engineering. The ability to understand and optimize processes in an overall view, including economical aspects, is also important.

Therefore, the VGB Working Panel "Training of Power Plant Staff" deals with the evolution of training concepts for the operation staff. This is managed in close cooperation with the KRAFTWERKSSCHULE E.V. in Essen and with the IHK-Examination Committees. The work for the modification of goals and contents for the training of "Kraftwerker" has been finished in May 2002. The revision of the concept for the training of "Kraftwerksmeister" has been started and is planned to be finished in 2005.
