VGB Congress "POWER PLANTS 2007" with technical exhibition
“Efficient Power Plant Technologies! Our Contribution to a Secure and Climate Compatible Electricity Generation”
The main topic of this year’s VGB Congress “Power Plants 2007” to be held in Salzburg is the practical implementation of an energy policy where electricity generation is meeting the requirements of the classical triangle of targets, namely economic efficiency, security of supply and environmental protection. Here climate protection is gaining in importance and is of top priority on the agenda of society and politicians. The European Commission also addressed this issue with its statements “Energy for a Changing World” and the related appeal calling for action. Correspondingly we adopted the European key-issues for the VGB Congress under the motto
“Efficient Power Plant Technologies! Our Contribution to a Secure and Climate Compatible Electricity Generation”
in view of future electricity generation. The broad band of topics is underlining impressively how to meet the existing challenges: The solution is not an “either … or” but a “both … and” of all sources of energy and all energy conversion technologies available within the scope of a well-balanced energy mix. The prominent role of continuous technical progress as part of this solution will also be reflected by several papers. Besides, the Congress programme will stress manufacturers´ and utilities´ commitment to the constant development and modernisation of the entire infrastructure of electricity supply.
With Salzburg we opted for an interesting Congress venue. The Austrian generation mix is dominated by hydro power, i.e. about two thirds of the Austrian electricity is based on this source of energy. Despite the increasing environmental requirements, Austria is extending the use of this renewable. The remaining third is generated in thermal power plants.
Being Mozart’s and the festival’s city, Salzburg is in terms of culture also very inviting. In the shadow of the Hohensalzburg castle, the largest, fully-preserved fortress in central Europe, this year’s VGB Congress will take place in an environment rich in history.
We are looking forward to your participation in the VGB Congress “Power Plants 2007”, and we would like to wish you an interesting time in Salzburg.
