DigiPoll@Energy

Digitalization and Industry 4.0 have a far-reaching impact on the energy sector. The VGB project DigiPoll@Energy analysis the as-is as well as the to-be state of the digital transformation regarding the approach and the digital applications. The objective of the poll is to identify best practices across generation technologies and value chain steps and thereby prepare the ground for joint research projects and actions.

The VGB members will receive an invitation via email in October 2019 to participate in the poll.

Dispatchable generation for flexibility in the energy system

For integration of wind and sun into the energy system, system flexibility is required. Flexibility can be provided by grids, storage and sector coupling technologies, demand-side-management and dispatchable generation. At present dispatchable generation is the major flexibility option. On our Flexibility homepage studies and standards provide comprehensive practical information on optimised technical and economic plant deployment and operation.

ICCT 2019 – International Conference on Industrial Construction and Cooling Towers

The ICCT 2019, International Conference on Industrial Construction and Cooling Towers, will take place on 9-12 October 2019 in Edinburgh, Scotland.

ICCT 2019 is jointly organized and supported by CICIND, the International Association for Industrial Construction, IASS, International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures and VGB PowerTech e.V. (Technical Groups „Civil Concepts/Specific Civil Solutions“ and „Civil Structural Maintenance/Condition Monitoring“).

The aim of the conference is to bring together all groups of experts in building technology of Industrial Construction, in order to review chances for cooperation in research and development. Common interests as well as differences shall be identified in order to find best practice methods for design and construction. The conference offers a platform, where new developments and the state-of-the-art in industrial and energy engineering and construction can be presented.

Eco-berms as dam stabiliser – EU Research project INADAR completed

Launched in 2015 with participation of VGB PowerTech, the LIFE Project INADAR (Innovative Approach to Dam Restoration) achieved its main objectives by 31 July 2019. An innovative approach to ecological dam rehabilitation has been developed and implemented on two test tracks. The rehabilitation or increase of the dams and the improvement of the ecological situation within the meaning of the Water Framework Directive (WFD) is thus carried out effectively and economically in one operation. The focus is on the installation of so-called "eco-berms", which both ensure dam stability and significantly improve the ecological situation in the riparian zones. Due to the measures implemented exclusively on the water side, intervention on the alluvial forest can be completely avoided.
