VGB on the Way to the Future Energy System

This year VGB PowerTech e.V. is celebrating its 100th anniversary. On the basis of its experience and technical expertise – supported by a network of more than 1,700 experts – the association is looking into the future. With its White Paper “Being Part of the Future Energy System”, VGB presents eight strategic fields of action for the implementation of the supply of sustainable, environmentally friendly, economic and secure energy. All players in the energy sector – from politics, business and society – are called upon to make their contribution to implementing these fields of action.

Re-purposing Coal Power Plants during Energy Transition (RECPP)

This European funded project is about the re-purposing potential of coal-fired power plants thus opening perspectives for coal regions in transition beyond of the coal phase out.

RECPP supports coal regions in transition by mapping

  • potential European coal power plant sites;
  • sustainable solutions for re-purposing equipment and infrastructure.

RECPP demonstrates the re-purposing potential by matching characteristic sites and exemplary implementation concepts, thus preparing future pilot projects.

RECPP is aiming at the inclusion of the entire industrial sector in three consecutive European workshops open for all stakeholders.

RECPP is carried out from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2022. Thirteen European operators of power plants and research institutions, coordinated by VGB, are core partner supported by further associated partners.

Don’t miss opportunity to register non-binding for the free of charge RECPP workshops already now! Operators may join the project as an associated partner. Ask for partnership!

From myVGB to eNet: Kick-off for the new social workspace

Corporate communication is not a one-way road. We would like to intensify collaboration between the VGB secretariat and the VGB members as well as for the first time direct digital exchange among VGB members.

The new eNet was kicked-off on 9 September 2020 on the occasion of the jubilee event 100 YEARS VGB becomes VGB OnLine.

Registration for HYDROPOWER EUROPE’s interactive workshop now open

On 26 August 2020, HYDROPOWER EUROPE opened registration for a unique online event called “Hydropower seeking its role in the clean energy transition” which is scheduled on 12-13 October 2020.

For the last two years, HYDROPOWER EUROPE partners have worked on a continuous consultation process through online consultations as well as regional and technical workshops. As a result, feedback from diverse stakeholders, including expert groups, industry actors and other interested parties was gathered.

This workshop is the last opportunity for stakeholders to participate in the consultation process and help to shape recommendations for the future of hydropower in Europe.

Online Conferences: We care about your opinion - Deadline extended!

We have extended the participation in our survey on virtual VGB events until October 31, 2020. Participate now and win a complimentary ticket for a VGB event.

The winner of the complementary ticket will be announced in the next VGB newsletter

Revision of the Feed Water Guidance VGB-S-010

The VGB-Standard VGB-S-010 “Feed Water, Boiler Water and Steam Quality for Power Plants/ Industrial Plants” supports the operator of water-steam cycles in power plants and related branches in selecting and assessing suitable water regimes with respect to a safe and economically sound operation of the power plant for a long period of time. This guidance does not deliver absolute limiting values of chemical parameters but demonstrates permissible operation ranges to achieve minimal corrosion within the water-steam cycle and to reach an optimised lifetime of the plant by implementation of an action level (AL) control system.

VGB is now revising the guidance and would like to get more knowledge about the experience with the action level control system for base- and peak-load plants as well as for cycling operation and grid reserve plants. Therefore, we would like to ask you to fill in the questionnaire are available for download in the eNet.

VGB provides energy-related reading material in the home office

As a consequence of the corona restrictions, a large number of employees in the power industry currently works at home, and thus unfortunately without access to the printed edition of our VGB PowerTech Journal. What could be more obvious than to quickly use the possibilities of digitalisation in this case as well? Therefore, in anticipation of an ongoing project to further digitalize our publications, VGB now offers an online edition of the VGB PowerTech Journal, starting with issue 1/2019.

In order to not only give the existing readership access to our energy and power plant technology information and specialist articles, but also to gain new readership, access will be activated for the period of corona-related restrictions via our website without further restrictions. VGB is looking forward to receiving feedback on this new offer and wishes good professional entertainment.
