Re-purposing Coal Power Plants during Energy Transition (RECPP)

This project opens perspectives beyond of the coal phase out. RECPP supports coal regions in transition by mapping

  • potential European coal power plant sites;
  • sustainable solutions for re-purposing equipment and infrastructure.

RECPP demonstrates the re-purposing potential by matching characteristic sites and exemplary implementation concepts, thus preparing future pilot projects.

RECPP is aiming at the inclusion of the entire industrial sector in three consecutive European workshops open for all stakeholders.

RECPP is carried out from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2022. Thirteen European operators of power plants and research institutions, coordinated by VGB, are core partner supported by further three associated partners.

Register now free for the 1st cross-national RECPP workshop taking place as interactive online event on 19 January 2021.

Survey result: Virtual events

Many event organisers are facing big challenges in the Corona crisis, including us. Therefore, we have launched a survey to what extent you would participate in a virtual VGB event. Looking at the results of the survey, 81% would participate in a virtual VGB event and more than 50% of the respondents are in favour of a webinar.

The winner of the complementary ticket is Murat Ikiz, Proses Su Teknolojileri Kimya San. Ic ve Dıs Tic. A.S, Turkey.

Issue PT Journal 10/2020

VGB provides energy-related reading material in the home office

As a consequence of the corona restrictions, a large number of employees in the power industry currently work at home, and thus unfortunately without access to the printed edition of our VGB PowerTech Journal. What could be more obvious than to quickly use the possibilities of digitalisation? In anticipation of an ongoing project to further digitalize publications, VGB offers an online edition of the VGB PowerTech Journal, starting with issue 1/2019.

In order to not only give the existing readership access to our energy and power plant technology information and specialist articles, but also to gain new readership, access is activated for the period of corona-related restrictions via our website. VGB is looking forward to receiving feedback on this offer.

VGB-S-821-91-2020-10-EN - RDS-PP® Pocketbook

This RDS-PP®-Pocketbook is an abridged version (extract) of the publication VGB-S-821-00-2016-06-EN “Reference Designation System for Power Plants RDS-PP® Letter Code for Power Plant Systems (System Key)” (former VGB-B 101e).

This pocket book is not appropriate as working material for coding and must not be used for this purpose. The more detailed RDS-PP® publications by VGB PowerTech ensure a compliant coding. Special license agreements are available for digital systems and enterprise solutions.

Projected Costs of Generating Electricity 2020 - New edition published!

The ninth edition of Projected Costs of Generating Electricity (2020), which is updated every 5 years by the IEA and NEA, has been published. The report focuses on the costs of generating electricity from a wide range of technologies and countries. The main insight of this edition is the increasing competitiveness of low-carbon technologies for electricity generation. This holds both for variable renewables such as wind and solar PV, as well as flexible low-carbon generators such as hydro and nuclear energy.

For the first time, the costs of system effects of different generation options, in particular the variability of wind and solar energy, are also being studied in detail. Such system analysis will become increasingly important as the electricity systems of OECD and non-OECD countries become more widespread. For this reason, the costs of storage are included for the first time. Lastly, the report provides a perspective on the coming electrification of sectors such as transport, hydrogen or heat production.

TW-103 Ae - Analysis of Unavailability of Power Plants - Now available as eBook!

The Technical-scientific Report Analysis of Unavailability of Power Plants is now available for the period 2010 - 2019. In addition to the power plant availability parameters, the performance of key systems and equipment affecting the unavailability of power plants is reflected. An unavailability analysis is done annually to identify relevant systems and equipment, and to monitor or retrofit these to improve power plant performance. Systems and equipment are specified according to the power plant identification system (KKS). The current report comprises performance indicators for 279 power plant units, evaluates around 125,000 incidents and provides some new features:

  • International focus,
  • new availability charts considering quartile values,
  • new nominal capacity cluster.
