VGB Conference "Power Plants in Competiton 2013" with technical exhibition
The importance of the energy efficiency triangle comprising security of energy supplies, economic efficiency and environmental compatibility has become even more significant since the last conference ”Power Plants in Competition“ in March 2011. These issues are put under more pressure since the German Federal Government has decided to phase out nuclear power and to increase renewable energies.
The discussion about the security of supply is dominated by the demand for new grids, storage technologies and requirements on fossil-fired power plants. The slogan of fossil-fired power plants “We won’t let you down when wind and sun make a break” is no longer sufficient. In future, fossil-fired power plants have to meet different requirements to guarantee optimum and reliable interaction within the changing European electricity market.
When the European 20/20/20 targets were communicated in 2008, the emission reduction policies, particularly CO2 reduction, were challenging but feasible. However, the German decision to phase out CO2-free nuclear power gives rise to new questions about the options available to meet the above-mentioned European targets. Our European neighbours consider these options equally important, but not as urgent as Germany.
The situation between all types of power generation and their interconnection in Europe has never been described better than by our Conference slogan “Power Plants in Competition”.
VGB PowerTech will offer again its proven platform where you can share your experiences, increase your knowledge and get in touch with operators and plant manufacturers.
