On November 15, 2012, the Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Yildiz and the Federal Minister of Economics and Technology Rösler signed a joint declaration of cooperation on energy. In order to fill this cooperation with life a Turkish-German Energy Forum will be set up. The different stakeholders of the energy sector get together in five working groups in order to promote collaborative projects and investments. Together with the German Lignite Industry Association the VGB coordinates the activities of the working group "conventional power stations, modernization of power stations and lignite extraction" (AG III) on the German side.

On January 30, 2013, a preparatory meeting of German energy supply companies and power plant technology companies took place at VGB, also participated by a representative of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. The participants covered the complete manufacturing power generation value-chain from planning and engineering via supply of components up to power plant operation. More than 15 companies vividly discussed the possible topics for the first meeting of AG III. Reliability and performance increases in addition to financing questions and lignite extraction are on top of the agenda from the German point of view. The first Turkish-German Energy Forum is supposed to take place in Ankara in the first half of 2013.
