On May 20, 2020, the online event "Let's save the climate together" took place – it was organized jointly by the VDI and the “Fridays for Future” movement. Almost 300 participants discussed intensively what contribution engineers can make to climate change, greenhouse gas neutrality and the energy transition. VGB’s managing director Dr. Oliver Then explained the role of dispatchable generation technologies in the future energy system.

A similar topic was the focus of two webinars organized by IGEF on April 30 and May 15, 2020. The aim of the webinars was to convey experiences and recommendations for the flexible operation of coal-fired power plants. Dr. Claudia Weise from VGB provided an insight into the situation in Europe in her presentations. She also reported on measures that have proven beneficial for flexible power plant operation. Over 300 industry representatives from Germany and India took part in the DIEF webinars. Many of them took the opportunity to exchange ideas with the speakers. Due to time constraints, many of the questions could only be answered by e-mail after the webinars.
