Dr. Hans Bünting is the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of VGB PowerTech e.V. The Doctor of Economics was elected to this office by the Board of Directors of the technical association during the VGB Congress “Power Plants 2016” in Leipzig.

Bünting succeeds Dr. Bernhard Fischer, a member of the Board of VGB since 2008 and, as Chair-man, head of the association since 2015.

“I look forward to promoting the work and the interests of the industry together with my col-leagues. The technical challenges of our day to the entire energy industry are tremendous. My goal is to develop solutions at VGB, jointly with the industry, for the efficient, environmentally safe and economical power generation of tomorrow,” said Bünting following his election. Bünting emphasized that “with its experience the VGB realises the urgently needed synergies between renewable and conventional generation and makes them visible. VGB thus sets the technical agenda for the transformation of the energy sector.”

Dr. Bernhard Fischer was awarded the Guilleaume commemorative medal in appreciation of his services in promoting innovations in power generation and for the further development of VGB PowerTech e.V. (Dr. Max Guilleaume, as Technical Director at the Leuna works, played a major part in the founding of VGB – near Leipzig in 1920).

Dr. Hans Bünting (52) studied economics at Ruhr-Universität Bochum and obtained his doctor’s degree there. He began his professional career at RWE Energie AG. Today Bünting is Chief Operating Officer (COO) Renewables of innogy SE.
