Power meets Kyoto - Energy and Enviroment in the EU 25

In the Einstein year 2005 VGB is becoming 85 years old and is holding its annual Congress under the motto:

"Power meets Kyoto - Energy and Environment in the EU 25"

Together with Cracow, Poland as biggest accession country of the enlarged EU 25, is this years's Congress host. The discussion about the perspectives of European electricity generation by meeting the requirements of the Kyoto Protocol is still on the agenda similar to the Congress Programmes in Copenhagen and Cologne that both focussed on issues how to close the capacity gap in electricity generation.

There has been no doubt since the last Congress in Cologne that the investments needed for new power plants will increase disproportionately. The identification of demand was turned into declared intentions that are presented in different papers and technical sections.

"The important thing is not to stop questioning " (Albert Einstein).

Despite all seriousness of the above-mentioned topics and the new questions that are continuously arising in connection with our activities, we also want to keep in mind our birthday. Even though the theory of relativity is somewhat older than VGB, and our "birthday face" is not as nice as Einstein's face, we are proud of being 85 years old. This is reason for celebrating! Therefore, we would like to present an exciting ans entertaning sind programme.

Besides unueal technical visits, Cracow is one of the most beautiful Eastern cities with uncounted sightseeing highlights. History is present in Cracow not only since Karol Wojtyla became Johan Paul II. Cracow is considered Poland's secret capital, and apart from the historical biuldings like churches, bourgeois houses and noble places, the daily Cracow life is interesting, too. The small things want to be discovered: patios, balconies, and tiny cobblestone streets with small shops.

Let us look forward to up-to-date topics, fruitful discussions and a historically ineresting side programme.

See you in Cracow!
