Integration of Renewables into German Energy Supply in the Period 2015 to 2020
Project Number 288
With the dena-Grid Study II, a long-term perspective for integration of renewables, particularly wind energy, into the German interconnected grid system is developed on the basis of the results of the dena-Grid Study I (refer to project No. 246 "Offshore Wind Energy"). Solutions for challenges emerging in the period 2015 to 2020 are to be elaborated.
The calculations are based upon generation of electricity feeding time series from wind power for the year 2020. An analysis of the chronological structure of wind energy feeding is included.
During grid design, development potentials of the conventional power plants as well as wind energy plants are considered. For base load power plants it is to be investigated which technical restrictions there are regarding minimum load. Ensured own supply for immediate supply in the case of a large disturbance and start-up and shutdown limits are to be considered. Contribution of the offshore-wind energy plants for system supply will also be determined. In order to ensure secure interconnected operation, these parameters result in the necessary portion of conventional power plants.
In parallel, options for optimum integration of wind energy by increased flexibility in the electricity system are presented. These are among other things measures for load management as well as integration of storage technologies.
