industry representatives of 25 countries met in Hamburg on September 17/18, 2014 and discussed the key issues presented in the Congress plenary lectures, at technical meetings and the technical exhibition.
In his welcoming speech, Olaf Scholz, First Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, underlined the meaning of secure energy supply that is based on a diverse energy mix and the associated energy generation. Scholz said that secure energy supply was impossible without secure generation capacity, also in power plants. Tuomo Hatakka, CEO of Vattenfall GmbH, was impressed by the changes of the energy sector in Germany and Europe towards “green” supply. Hatakka also referred to the technical and economical challenges that go along with these changes. Michael Fübi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of VGB PowerTech, emphasized the often-quoted role of VGB PowerTech as ideal platform of all issues and information related to power and heat generation in the current times of change
The Congress programme comprised 30 lectures covering a broad range of up-to-date topics. Papers like “Maintenance without Money”, “New Hydro, Possibilities in Europe and Worldwide”, “6 MW Direct Drive – New Generation Offshore Wind Turbine” and “First Operational Experiences with the CCGT Denizl” are examples for the comprehensive Congress programme.
Selected papers will be published in the forthcoming editions of our journal “VGB PowerTech”.
