Baroque Time-Tunnel - Tour to the Baroque Residence Ludwigsburg

September 18, 2008   10.00  – 15.00 h
September 19, 2008   10.00  – 15.00 h

It was Duke Eberhard Ludwig from Württemberg (1693-1733), just 27 at age, who laid the cornerstone of his hunting lodge 14 km north of Stuttgart in 1704. Out of it emerged until 1733 his impressive baroque residence formed by 18 buildings with a total number of 452 rooms in a park 32 hectare in area. Master builder were Johann Friedrich Nette and Donato Giuseppe Frisoni. The Italian frescoes painter Colomba and the plasterer Carlone and Retti outperformed themselves in courtly splendour. Along with the old “Corps de Logis” originated “Spielpavillon”, “Jagdpavillon” and “Hofkapelle”. In some distance of the “Corps de Logis” rests the summer residence “Favorite” with its numerous towers. But it was not until the construction of the new „Corps de Logis” in the twenties of the 18th century that made Ludwigsburg known as “Swabian Versailles”. The castle ground today hosts the porcelain manufacture founded in 1758, the horticultural show “Blühendes Barock” and moreover it is used for the castle pageants.

EnBW operates a number of units at the Altbach/Deizisau site, with a gross capacity of around 1,200 megawatts (el.). The two combined cycle power plant blocks (HKW 1 and 2) are coal-fired, and simultaneously produce electricity and district heating in combined cycle process.
