Nossener Brücke Gas Turbine Combined Heat and Power Plant
Layout, building heights, the position of sound sources and the architectural exterior are the result of careful planning. Fired with gas and yielding high efficiency as a result of combined power and heat, the plant generates extremely low emissions. Costly noise control measures were necessary due to the very short distance to the nearest residential building.

Some figures:
Year of construction:      1995
Electric output:                 270 MW
Thermal output:                455 MW Heizwasser
                                         25 MW Dampf
Fuel:                                 Erdgas / leichtes Heizöl

Schwarze Pumpe Power Plant
The Schwarze Pumpe Power Plant situated in the town of the same name is one of the most advanced and efficient lignite-fired power plants of the world. The new power plant designed as a lignite double-unit plant with two 800 MW units is also the first lignite power plant of a new generation supplying eastern Germany with electric power in a reliable, economical and environmentally gentle way. Its high efficiency of 41% is reached by employing most sophisticated technology.

Some figures:
Construction period:           1993 to 1998 (start-up of the second unit)
Capacity:                            1,600 MW
Net efficiency:                    about 41%
Fuel utilisation:                    about 40%

Boxberg Power Plant and Nochten Open-cast Lignite Mine
The Boxberg Power Plant went into operation with 3,250 MW between 1971 and 1979.
Meanwhile, all 12 x 210 MW units have been shut down and partially dismantled. A 900 MW single-unit plant (Plant No. IV) was newly erected and has been safely and efficiently feeding lignite electricity into the grid since 2000. Two 500 MW units (Plant No. III) were retrofitted and equipped with most sophisticated environmental engineering systems, thus facilitating its continual operation for an unlimited period.

Some figures:
Construction period:        1971 to 1979 (start-up of Plant No. III),
start-up of Plant No. IV:   2000
Capacity:                         1,900 MW
Efficiency:                       35 – 42%
Fuel utilisation:                 about 39% in Plant No. III,
about 44% in Plant No. IV

The Boxberg Power Plant converts raw lignite from the nearby Nochten open-cast mine into electric energy. The lignite is transported by rail to Plant No. III or by means of belt conveyors to Plant No. IV. Presently, the Second Lusatian Lignite Seam is mined. Its depth extends from about 65 to not more than 100 m with an average thickness of 12 metres. The Nochten open-cast mine produces about 18 million tonnes of raw lignite every year.

Some figures as to raw lignite quality:
Calorific value:                about 8,700 kJ/kg
Water content:                about 56%
Sulphur content:             about 0.7%
Ash content:                   about 4.5%

Minimum member of participants: 25 persons
Meeting place: Congress Center
Price: € 30.00 per                                                                       [back to the overview]
