When the German Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health (BetrSichV) of 27 September 2002 came into effect, it marked a paradigm change in the technical rules for the operation of installations subject to monitoring. A hazard-related set of rules entered into force, taking the place of a previously installation-specific set of rules, which, for example, the Technische Regeln Dampfkessel (TRD – Technical Rules for Steam Boilers) was for steam boiler plants.
These new Technische Regeln für Betriebssicherheit (TRBS – Technical Rules for Operating Safety) apply irrespective of industry to the provision and use of work equipment and for the operation of installations subject to monitoring.
The intention of this VGB standard is to preserve the level of knowledge contained in the previous tried and tested Technische Regeln Dampfkessel l (TRD 601 Sheet 1, Sheet 2 and TRD 603 Sheet 1, Sheet 2) in order to give the operator of steam boiler installations a practical set of instructions for the operation of steam generators of category III (from 1,000 bar/liter) and category IV.
The following topics, in particular, are dealt with in this standard:
- General demands on operation
- Monitoring, maintenance and inspection
- Inspection documentation
- Repairs and testing
- Notification of damage
- Checklists for the maintenance, supervision and operation of the steam boiler installation
