Im Jahre 1964 erschien die 1. Auflage des VGB-Fachkundebuches "Dampfturbinen", bearbeitet von den Herren Gabrysch und Petow. Eine Überarbeitung und Ergänzung der 1. Auflage des Fachkundebuches nach 19 Jahren war aus mehreren Gründen erforderlich. Zunächst mußte der gesamte Stoff aktualisiert werden, um den Stand der Technik, insbesondere die Weiterentwicklung zu Dampfturbosätzen einschließlich Kernkraftwerksturbinen mit großer Leistung, zu berücksichtigen.

Immer weniger Personal wird zukünftig komplizierte und komplexe Anlagen betreiben und instandhalten. Fundierte operative und strategische Entscheidungen für eine effiziente Betriebsführung erfordern vom anagement praktikables Wissen und unkompliziert abrufbare Wissensquellen. Wissen und Können werden im kommenden Jahrhundert das Primat der materiellen Ressourcen in der Produktion ablösen.

Within the next years keywords such as water scarcity, water pollution and water aid projects will become more and more familiar to the broad public as well as put into focus. On the Global Environment Day in Beirut 2003, it was reported that the available water quantity per person in the MENA region (Middle East North Africa) in 1960 averaged out to 3,300 cubic metres. In 2003, this quantity had decreased to only 1,200 cubic metres. Water projects are discussed and realised all over the world. Already today water supply is closely connected to politics. In the future, the distribution of the limited water resources will depend worldwide on the sense of responsibility of international politics and the globalized society.

Both the Swedish PSA database T-Book and the German PSA database ZEDB use two-stage Bayesian models to calculate plant specific and generic reliability data from operational experience (component event data and operating times) of nuclear power plants.

Generally speaking, different assumptions can be made for the hyper distribution and hyper priors for the parameters of the hyper distribution, and these may influence the calculated reliability data. Evaluating the same data sets using the T-Book and the ZEDB approaches provides the opportunity to compare the methodologies.

The plant identification rules (guidelines, keys, and application explanations), edited by VGB Power Tech as part of the Identification System for Power Stations (KKS), leave room for different ways of identification to meet the requirements of the various engineering disciplines including that of hydroelectric power plants. Identification standard DIN 6779 part 10 includes these rooms as well in order to allow different users and power stations to make use of these rules.

This VGB-Standard deals with flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) in large combustion plants. At this point, no additive processes, which can be employed in combustion, are considered. Here, only plants downstream of combustion are considered. The aim of the instruction sheet is to describe procedures and special designs so that every reader finds his type of plant described. Operating experience is what is most important. If special plant-specific problems occur, the corresponding plant type is pointed out. First experience is also important since the cooperation of experienced operating personnel is necessary for planning new plants. There is otherwise a risk that operating experience with existing plants is not considered.

Data reconciliation as set out in VDI 2048 is indeed an interesting and technically complex process with which the quality of the operational process data and the indicators based on those data can be significantly improved.
